Hooligans

Our house sometimes seems like an extension of a rescue centre.
I've made some hasty decisions in the past (ducks and a turkey to name but two) which later turned out to be a bit of a disaster. Unfortunately  the words 'I'll have them/I'll do it'  fall a bit too freely from my lips some days and I then spend my days worrying about the hasty decision I've just made and its consequences.
Colin is now living as a pet on a small holding. Apparently he is in love with a pea hen and there will soon be lady turkeys for his entertainment too. Poor Colin, his very loud calling out for a lady turkey (every 5 minutes from dawn til dusk) was getting him nowhere.

These two little cuties are our latest rescue.
A farmer was going to drown them if nobody had them, so a friend of a friend of a stinky boy took them all and has been looking for homes for them ever since.
I seem to remember saying ' Okay, just one, not a black one (we've had 2 in the past and I fancied a change)and not a girl'
So here are Olive and Florence ( I know, she's not a caravan or a short-lived stripey hen but I do SO like that name...) both black and both girls..and just incase you didn't notice already, there are two of them.
  Ho hum.
Kids are very good at persuading parents. They should take GCSE's in persuading, they'd all pass with an A*.
Olive and Florence spend their days climbing up inside the curtain linings, leaping across chairs and tables, eating plants and smashing ornaments often with an excited brown Labrador not far behind them.

And there was me thinking how boring life was becoming...!

cheerio for now x

P.S thanks for your messages on the last post, I've been a bit down in the dumps lately and a bit lost for words too, so sorry if I didn't reply..you must think I'm being very rude indeed!  xx

  1. They are just beautiful! And when you're destined to have black cats, you have black cats! We've had three! I love them. Thank god they weren't drowned....too upsetting for words. Hope they don't destroy too much but when they're that cute....well who cares!

    1. Maybe it's lucky to have a black cat Jo!
They are getting away with a lot of mischief I must say..then they make you laugh with a sideways walk or a forward roll and you forget they've just broken another pot! x

  2. Hi Sairer, what gorgeous kitties, can't believe that horrid farmer, good on the boys for rescuing them. Adorable as they are, they sound pretty destructive! My mum and dad got a kitten earlier this year and (our cats are 14-15) we had all forgotten quite how mad they are! She got tangled up in the blinds (watching birds at the window) and the blinds had to be cut to free her! Ah well, you life is never dull! Hope life is treating you well.

    1. I didnt realise your cats were in double figures Hen, mind you Basil is 17. I too forgot what chaos kittens cause, every now and again you get to feel those needle-like claws..up your leg or out from under the sofa and straight on your toes..yowww! Glad your mums kittie was ok, how annoying having to cut the blinds! poor thing though! x

just be thankful you do not have a farm - since moving here i seem to have said "yes" to rather more than i should because we have the room..
sadly i can not see this ever changing and now spend most of my day going from one shouting animal to the next..
the house is a tip, cannot remember when i last brushed my hair but by golly i am happy x
    so
if ever you fancy a day job here then you are clearly *very* qualified :)
hugs to you to brighten your day

    1. I DREAM of a farm for feathered waifs and strays,T.
A sea of ginger ex-battery hens roaming free in an old orchard would be my idea of bliss! You are very lucky (and so are your creatures)
      Thanks for the hugs! x

  5. Booo to the farmer threatening to drown the kitties! We've just got a bonkers Mini Schnauzer who would love it if we got chickens. Not sure the chickens would love it though, she would be wanting to play with them all the time!

I've got some serious bag jealousy going on here. I had a phase of looking for those travel patches on eBay for a while with the idea of making a bag or picnic blanket with them.

    1. Hello Nadine,I was very lucky getting my longed for travel bag (my son's girlfriend gets a good discount so I think that was why I was bought it!)Its much better made than the other CK bags I've owned..and it's in the sale now!

I've seen some of those travel patches on eBay too and some holiday souvenir 1960s badges that I've often wondered about doing something with..ooh you've got my rusty brain whirring now! x

  6. Aww, great news and they are soo beautiful!
And your boys have hearts of gold...
    Loved this post!
You know you will be shouting and even perhaps screaming at the kittens( not son's) at times, but most of all you will be laughing as they are little balls of mischief!
    Enjoy...

  7. Those kittens are so cute! We used to have a black cat when I was young - named Blackie by me aged 7 - very original! Over the years we have had 8 cats - we still have 5 but not a black one! I love the names Olive and Florence! I am sure that they will drive you to distraction at times but give you much affection too!

  8. I wouldn't have been able to say no either, they're are so gorgeous! Thankfully the kitten stage doesn't last too long.Bella got hold of a squirrel the other day,so she's not in our good books at the moment. :0)

    1. oops! poor squirrel!
I think our Bella wants to just join in and play, there's lots of hissing when she gets involved and she gets very frustrated, she even got stuck under the sofa trying to get to them! x

  9. They are BEAUTIFUL...One of our three was a rescue from a farm about to drown her too...???
If you have been a bit down then a dose of two adorable little kittens will perk you up!
Hope the sun is shining again for you soon-emotionally and literally..

  10. Ive often wondered how your pets get on with each other, I sometimes think of getting a friend for Milly. Two mischevious kittens and a puppy. What a handful. You must have a heart of gold.

    1. Hello Louise, we are quite lucky that they all get on, I thought the puppy would be a nightmare with the chickens but even though she chases the pigeons on the park, she's never bothered with the hens. Our old dog is soooo laid back he's horizontal, the kittens run all over him and he can't be bothered to even move, 5 minutes after he'll look up as if to say 'what was that?'!!
I like having multiples of animals, I always think they've got a buddy that can speak their language then! xx

  11. 'Hello' from a new subscriber!
Your kitties are GORGEOUS, I am just as bad, (we have 9 - SO many ferals where we live), that once one turns up at the back door it invariably ends up stretched out in front of our fire & then one day you notice a very content & confident cat strutting in & out of your house like 'they live there' Lol! I wouldn't be without any of them though.
Am loving your blog, it makes me happy!
Sending hugs to you from the Isle of Anglesey! :) x

The most we've had is 6, I always vowed I'd stick to 2 again but never mind. No more posh sachet cat food for the oldies though. They won't be pleased! x

  12. My home is up to 2 dogs, 3 cats (one of them black) and one human - me. So it gets a little difficult at times to balance my life with the needs of five pets, but like you I cannot turn away an animal that needs a home. There is plenty of reward for me but I wish it wasn't always assumed that I would be the one to hold the full-time job all the time. Slackers, all of them!

(We haven't had a good rain in over a month here. My flowers are suffering and my grass has given up the ghost. Wish there was a way to swap weather with you for a day!)

  13. Lovely to hear from you and sorry to hear you have been feeling a bit low.I love your two fur babies-I know exactly where you're coming from I have a fifteen year old collie cross and two tabby boys who are a bit long in the tooth...no more pets say I...Just before Christmas, eldest son appears at my bedside at six thirty, a lot the worse for wear and produced a little white kitten in a cat carrier and told me he had found it wandering in the street and he was giving me an early Christmas present!!How many lost kittens come complete with cat carrier.Anyway after much cajoling I named said kitten Betty who became number three.Bettty then became Norman and he is making his presence felt- stroppy teenager annoying a bunch of furry oaps.....such is life said son has left home now along with son number two and they are happily sharing an animal free flat and living in pristimne minimalism and I am left with the old man and ailing pets who love to throw up on my favourite cushions etc...(Cats not the old man)You get the picture.Have a great weekend..Much love Anne x

    1. I love this story Anne it really made me laugh, pets with normal human names just seem hilarious, If these 2 were boys they would be Barry and Dave or something equally as 'normal'. My son wants to call a guinea pig or a chicken Helen, Susan or Claire just because it's 'random'
It makes me laugh as they're just the fashionable 1960s names of people I grew up with!

Glad you approve of my specs, I can highly recommend Vision Express for their vast choice, I must have found 10 pairs I liked in there (and the fact that they do interest free credit!) Hope your and your kitty cats are well xx

  18. Hi Sairer - thank you for dropping in (did you enjoy your tea and cake - ho ho). I would love to make you some bunting - I replied to you on Flickr all that time ago once or twice, now I am wondering if that message is still travelling around the ether looking for its home!! I originally asked where you lived so I could make some for your own home territory - would Cornwall or something similar be ok? It might be a few weeks (having waited some years already....oh dear!) but I will do it. Perhaps you could send me your address when free.

Sorry for down in the dumpness - I am sure that many, many of us can identify with that - I wish you sunshine round the corner and merriment at each turn
    Best wishes
    Jenny
