..do some people/families have such bad luck?
My eldest son was involved in a 3 car accident last night. A bad one.
Luckily he's ok, they all are, even though the car apparently flipped over after a taxi decided to turn right, across their path a little too late. They were (legally) doing 60mph.For once it wasn't the teenagers' fault as so often seems the case.
George has a broken foot, very bad internal bruising, cuts and bruises and swellings to his face and what looks like a bit of a broken nose from the air bag.You can literally see the marks from the seatbelt on his chest and abdomen.Poor thing.. he's a skinny 17 year old who shouldn't have experienced such a thing so young. All three boys escaped lightly considering.
I wasn't allowed to see him at the scene of the accident but four hours (a long four hours) later I saw a sedated kid in A&E, face covered in blood, body covered in bruises. Shaking with shock, The clothes they cut from him in a green plastic bag beside him.
Sitting in the hospital waiting for any news with the 3 other distraught parents is not quite how I would ever like to spend another Saturday evening again. We had our very own episode of 'Casualty' unfolding infront of us.
At the same time, 8pm, same night, but in Hereford, three other young people weren't so lucky and lost their lives in a similar accident. It could so easily have been the other way round.
My heart goes out to the mothers of them. I cannot begin to imagine their pain.
I think the shock of it all is sinking in now.I'm starting to shake a little typing this, I dont even know why I'm typing this.
I'm sorry if my blog is becoming more like a page of 'Dear Deidre' but you know how it goes in blogland somedays are good somedays are bad..

there are tears in my eyes as i read your blog entry as i am so scared when my son goes out driving. they think they are immortal (as i am sure we did at their age). my son is a good and confident driver but i still worry. it must have been an awful time for you and to see him so injured - it must have made you feel like you wanted to scoop him up and keep him safe.
ReplyDeletei hope he heals soon and my heart goes out to you and your family.

Oh my, thankfully he'll be ok. What an awful thing to happen. I had an accident last year and know how scary it is, and mine was minor compared! We all worry so much about our children, but it's terrible to think we can't be there all the time.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you,
Jenelle
so pleased that your son is ok. My heart too goes out to those families that have lost dear ones. Awful.

What a terrible shock and time of worry for you. I'm so glad to hear that your son has escaped without too many injuries. As you say, there are some dreadful tragedies. You just pray that they manage to stay safe when they're out at night.
ReplyDeleteHope you soon feel better and that all goes well for your son in making a speedy recovery.

Oh Sairer, I'm so glad they are all ok - what a terrible shock ... a parent's worst nightmare. You must still feel so raw from the whole thing - just take it all a day at a time, and look after each other.

So sorry to hear about George, what a terrible shock. I'm so glad he is O.K. and wasn't injured too badly, lucky that he had the sense to be wearing his seat belt, or it could have been a lot worse. You would think that a taxi driver should be a better driver than that.
ReplyDeleteMy brother was in car car accident when he was a similar age, their car skidded on ice and ploughed across a main road hitting the central barrier, it was pure luck that they weren't hit by a lorry coming the other way, he wasn't driving, but he was the only one wearing a seat belt, and was the only one wasn't badly injured.
I hope George feels better soon, and maybe being in a car accident so young will have a positive impact on him, and make him think twice when he is in the driving seat.
I hope you feel better too.

I can't begin to imagine the stress of it all ... life can sometimes be bought into sharp focus in an instant.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts are with all the families.

God that is terrifying my heart goes out to you and the other parents. Poor George I wish him a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteI dread my lot learning to drive...
Gosh I am terribly sorry to hear that.
ReplyDeleteI hope all involved feel better soon.

Dear Sairer,
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely sorry to hear about the accident, but I am also very reliefed that your son and his friends are okay. This is such a nightmare for parents and I so much wishing you a quick recovery, from the hurts and pains and from the shock.
I am sendig you a big hug and all my very best wishes,
Suzi
I bet those 4 hours were the longest ever. So glad he's okay.
ReplyDeleteSairer, this might sound a bit odd especially as you are in shock but get photos of everything, injories etc, get copies of hospital reports etc.
ReplyDeleteI'm saying this as my DH was in a rta a couple of years ago (not his fault) and he is having ongoing health problems since, trouble is the hospital lost a lot of his reports and we can't prove most of it.
Hope your son is soon better, hugs to you both.
Sending best wishes for a speedy recovery for your son!
ReplyDeleteSo sad to hear about your sons accident and his friends.
ReplyDeleteAlso my thoughts goes to all the other families who have lost their son`s!
Hope you are feeling much well now!
