It never rains but pours down...(with a Basil update!)

hello..hello I am still here! I really do not know where the time has gone this month, I'm all of a dither with one thing and another, lots to sew, lots to say and no time for either! Thanks for all your messages and emails..you are all LOVELY !x
At some point I will get round to saying hello to everyone again old and new.
I have to ask..did you see Time warp wives on channel 4 last Friday?

Many moons ago in a galaxy far far away, I used to know Jo..the girlie in the picture above with the gorgeous figure who looks no different now to how she did back in the early 90's (apart from her hair was black back then) I do believe she now goes under the name Lola Lamour who sang at the 40s dance that Steph (Curlew country) recently went to..small world hey. Well these four girlies have had some seriously bad press and I'd just like to say, girls I totally get it.We've been there and children do change things..it was like moses parting the waves when I used to pick the boys up from school or go shopping in all my 50's gear, people would stare in amazement and you certainly got ridiculed or mocked for it. I never would leave the house without my eyebrows pencilled in and red lipstick perfectly on. Our 1950's lifestyle gradually got diluted down as the boys got older and I would go back to it in a blink if I could, it was a fabulous time, just fabulous.Who's to say how anyone should live their lives? It's not hurting anyone is it? Goodness me.
Anyway, I havent gone to work today as we have had a bit of a trauma..my darling, gorgeous ginger pussy cat, Basil was hit by a car this morning..he's alive..thank goodness.. but has a very badly injured leg and is at the Vets as I type waiting for a phone call.I just hope he will be ok, it looks like either his hip or his knee is damaged (I'm dreading the vet bill..they casually said, it shouldnt be any more than £300!!!!) my poor boy..he's such a gorgeous cat, if he was a human I would have married him ( sorry Pete!) please keep your fingers crossed as I think my heart would break if anything were to happen to him...so you can see why I titled this post like I have, apart from the horrid wet weather we have been having of late, it seems to be one thing after another in this household..never raining but pouring... but I hope the sun is shining for you wherever you are!
Back soon with a shop update and hopefully lots of nice vintage, pretty or shabby things to talk about!
S x

a little update about Basil... he's home from the vets and has to spend 3 weeks in this cage, he had managed to drag himself home with a dislocated hip..poor thing and has stitches where his leg had been torn..how he got over the gate and through two catflaps I'll never know..but he's doing a lot of sleeping at the moment..I think it's going to be a long 3 weeks trying to keep him confined in here,a dog crate...!
Thank goodness we have an understanding vet..I certainly couldn't afford the £240 bill in one go!! TWO HUNDRED AND FOURTY POUNDS!!! eek! I nearly dropped dead on the spot!!

  1. Firstly I am keeping everything crossed for Basil.
    Poor boy.

I caught the last 15 minutes of Time Warp Wives.....I found it very interesting and I am surprised they were criticized.....I found their life choices harmless enough....I'd rather live next door to a couple living a 40 or 50's lifestyle than be swingers or druggies!!

Now don't hate me but I am loving the rain.....as I am no good in the heat.

  2. Helloxxx Just wanted to say that I'm sure your dear pussy cat will be fine....I have been visiting your blog for a couple of months now and it is truly beautiful and very inspiring and it encouraged me to set my own blog up. I also have a cat who I love dearly so I can understand how worried you must be but cats are very strong try not too worry xxx

  4. Oh poor Basil I hope he feels better soon and so does your credit card! Vets can be so expensive.

I watched the Time Warp wives and loved the style of the homes especially the floor in Jo's kitchen.I would love that!I agree it's totally upto them how they live.I know people can be so judgemental I even get funny looks for my charity shop habits! I did find it a bit sad about their reasons not to have kids though.Surely as a society we need more parents like them with values to bring up better informed children.I mean you can't fix things from the outside. You really have to be part of something to be effective. So I suppose it could be seen as a little selfish of them to withdraw into their little world and not use their obvious caring natures in the wider community. I know they aren't doing any harm but maybe there is a way they could really help.Just a thought.

  7. Hi Sairer,
Good luck to poor Basil - hope he gets better VERY soon! Ginger kitties are the best!

I managed to watch 'Time Warp Wives' on the PC catch-up thingy, not sure what its called...too technical for me. But wanted to watch it after reading a few negative things on blogs. I thought Jo's home was incredible - fancy you knowing her!
There is no way you could live like that if you did have kids though - its her choice and she should be allowed to make it...
(Subconsciously, I think she must have inspired my latest post)

    Take care,
    Niki

I did see that programme & just loved that they do their own thing. I always admire people who go for their dreams.

  13. Oh no! Poor Basil- how is he now? Sending lots of good wishes to him to get better soon.
I didn't see the tv programme but I did watch her being interviewed on GMTV I think. You're absolutely right, it is no ones business whatsoever how other people decide to live their lives. We are all individual and that's what makes us all so interesting! Ha! (thats my excuse anyway!)

  14. My heart goes out to you and poor Basil.. As a doting mother to a tabby boy I can well understand the trauma you have been through.
I hope Basil is up and about soon and makes a full recovery.

I didn't see the 'Time Warp Wives'.. I wish I had. I applaud these women for opting out of this callous, greedy and cynical world we live in.. I would love to turn the clock back and live in the 50's!

P.s Just to let you know.. I finally caught the green tins.. thanks so much for the tip off!

  15. Poor Basil! The same thing happened to a cat of some friends of mine; he lived to a happy, healthy old age once he healed. And another friend's cat had the same problem too; her tail was a bit limp after, but she recovered and died of old age too. So poor Basil but cats are very resiliant.

  16. Awww, bless him - I'm glad to hear he's in one piece, but, oh, the indignity of having to sleep in a DOG cage!

Come and join the camper van swap I'm running on my blog - it might be the closest you get to a summer activity!

Kisses to Basil (but don't tell my Poppy-dog!)

I thought Time Warp Wives was a great programme, people should be able to live their lives the way they choose as life is too short!

  29. How awful for you. I hope it may help to know my cat was hit by a car about 6 years ago now. He fractured his pelvis (and in a freakily similar scenario, managed to flee from the scene and jump over several 6 foot fences to get back home). He was to spend 6 weeks in a cage. Wasn't too bad at first as he was doped up and in pain so slept a lot a didn't want to move but after a few weeks, he couldn't wait to get out, esp to see his furry brother. We gave in after about 5 weeks and let him out into the house for a week, then outside. He's still going strong and manages perfectly (he also lost his tail as a result of the accident). So happy to read Basil has survived and is on the mend.

  31. I think Jo and the girls are fabulous and i am sure a lot of people watching were green with envy as they would secretly love to live in a doris day movie,i know i would.
Your poor cat, awww i am sending a big hug,you know when my Max lost his eye (i have a post on it if you want to scroll back) it was just short of a thousand pounds to have it removed!! not fixed...i ask you???

  33. Hi give Basil a kiss poor thing and poor you with that bill! Glad to see you back - I havent posted for ages either - we have been getting on well with the house but cannot find the camera anywhere! Isnt the weather awful - this is the summer that never was - I hardly dare ask how is big stinky boy. My son was unloading a wagon at work today and the guy was really awful to him then he said to him you are the young g** that hit my son at school 7 years ago! and I nver forget anyone. David just removed himself from the situation - I wish I had been there - people wont let things go will they. His son is real drop out and has never worked so I guess that it David's fault as well!!
